How can I train a search dog?

SARDA South Wales' search dogs need highly dedicated, professional handlers. It takes a great deal of dedication and persistence with training to get a dog up to assessment standard.

An important part of the training to become a handler is a minimum of around 12 months experience with a Mountain Rescue team - this is necessary to gain the search, first aid, and similar skills necessary to be a handler. All handlers will also have been bodies for SARDA for at least 6 months before beginning to train a puppy, in order to gain a better understanding of the training, and to get to know the rest of the team.
